I’m still around :)
I really should blog more consistently, but a series of events after my trip to MAX Japan has taken me on a roller-coaster ride. This year’s in-camp training has increased quite a bit for me, and I’m about to start at my new company. Hopefully I can find some time to do some blogging. ![]()
Waiting for MAX
The scheduling problem I had written in the previous post was kindly resolved by the secretariat of Adobe MAX Japan 2009. Now I have the conference tickets reserved, plane tickets and hotel lodgings booked. Woot! \m/
We’ll be in Tokyo for 10 days for winter! brrrrr!
An exercise in frustration
I was trying to register for the Adobe Max Conference in Japan for me and my girlfriend, and I ended up almost tearing my hairs out. I guess the local venues have their own way of registering attendees, but the Japanese version had my underwear in a bunch.
Firstly, selecting the tracks were frustrating because it wouldn’t show as selected. Later I found out that the second day selections were shown in the first day.
As a result of this error, the confirmation page showed that we’ll only attend one day of the conference, which is not what we wanted because we’re going for both days!
What I really wanted to schedule was this:
I’ve sent them an email regist[at]adobe-max-japan[dot]com, and hopefully they can help resolve this fast enough. I’m not sure if anyone encountered this anomaly for San Francisco or Milan venues.
A peeve that I have is that Milan site is in English, even though it catered to the European flash community. However for the Japan venue, it is solely in Japanese and that basically ruled out all Asian region flash community that don’t speak or read Japanese. I mean come on, please provide for us in the Asian region! Whoever from Adobe reading this rant, please, an English site…
2008, year in review
The first post for the new year! Happy New Year all!
2008 has been a year where I’ve been trying new things: transiting to coding in AS3, trying out PureMVC single and multicore framework in a couple of projects, building up a personal AS3 library of classes and utilities, a shot at architecture of a RIA, attending the inaugural <head> conference, as well as Singapore’s first user group organised ActionScript Conference…
I’m pretty satisfied that I’ve managed to progress technically in my learning of AS3, and as such, 2008 has been a good year for me. And what do I want to achieve in 2009? Well, first off, to attend the Max Japan on 29th and 30th of Jan, since Max hasn’t been in Singapore since 2006. Next will be to gain more knowledge and working experience on UX/IA design and implementation, as well as better understanding and usage of object oriented analysis and design.
I’m still working towards my goal of becoming a RIA architect. ![]()

<head> conference continued
The presentation Here Be Pixel by Mario Klingemann blew me away this evening, where he explained his thought process on how he did a QR code reader in Flash. There wasn’t any code shown for it, but he used filters like threshold to eliminate the excess information and extracted the blobs needed to do further analysis.
Totally amazing and inspirational!
<head> conference
I had attended the past two sessions of the <head> conference, organised by Aral Balkan et al. Since the conference is held mostly in the United States, for me, the schedule started at 0000hrs 25th October. So for the past 2 nights, I was up watching the conference online through Adobe Connect.
The second session ended at 0700hrs on Sunday and I’m groggy now :s The next sessions starts at 1800hrs again today and will last till 0600 on Monday! That’s 12 straight hours. Oh, I’m in for a long night. Thank goodness Monday’s a public holiday. Woot!
Hello world from The Actionscript Conference 2008
I’m blogging from TAC Singapore 2008, organised by Singapore Flex User Group, held at the Singapore National Library. Hu Shunjie started off TAC by giving a passionate presentation on “Passion”. It’s passion that fueled this first ever user group initiated conference and I must give the organisers a big congratulations! No doubt the amount time and effort spent on the conference logistics must be tremendous. Read more…
